A POEM FOR DIOR
It’s not often you get the opportunity to write a poem for a client. So when Dior asked me to write one on Granville (where Christian Dior spent his carefree childhood), I was thrilled.
MY LAND MY LIFE
It’s where the land meets the sun
to shine on the rugged,
wild beauty of Granville
It’s not no man’s land,
it’s my land,
my sea, my wind, my world
whirling around me
that takes me into the depths of nature
into the depths of myself
to places I’ve never seen
never been before.
Wild, wonderous, wistful…
She sweeps me up in her rage
Thrashing, lashing out
waging war against the elements
her wild beauty shows them
she can’t be conquered
Then calm after the storm
she lets her pure strength shine
through hail, sleet and snow
and slips through the steely gates
past the lush meadows
looks to the heavens and over the cliffs,
to lead me back
to the blossming buds
swaying to the rhythm of the wind
Facing the world,
they turn to the golden light
opening up their pastel petals
as if to say…
my strength, my beauty, my land.
